Catalog description
A continuation of Adult Health I and II, this advanced medical surgical course develops advanced knowledge and skills required to provide safe and quality care for adults with complex health alterations. Evidence-based health care practices are emphasized. Nursing clinical experiences are provided in a variety of settings focusing on the care of multiple adult patients with high acuity. Typically offered Fall Spring. Prerequisite(s): NUR 39201 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C AND NUR 48602 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C (MAY BE TAKEN CONCURRENTLY) Experiential Learning (EXL): Yes Course Learning Outcomes 1. Integrate the nursing process, and demonstrate professional behavior in the delivery of safe, holistic, person centered care using the best available evidence, to multiple adults with complex health problems. 2. Synthesize concepts of caring, critical thinking and clinical decision making as the basis of care for adults with complex health problems. 3. Analyze relationships among disease processes, clinical presentation and nursing management of adult patients with complex health problems. 4. Analyze health care technologies to coordinate care and inform clinical practice decisions in the context of complex acutely ill patients. 5. Apply principles of effective communication and leadership while working collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams in the context of complex patient care. 6. Prioritize care using time management, appropriate delegation, organizational skills and critical thinking to provide for the basic human needs of care for multiple complex patients. 7. Demonstrate accountability for practice within the legal and ethical standards of the nursing profession, upholding the ANA Code of Ethics. View Class Schedule
