Catalog description

This course builds on the foundational nursing courses. Concepts of health promotion, maintenance, restoration and palliation will be utilized to focus on person-centered care in the adult population. Evidence based practice will guide the nursing process to address basic human needs in a variety of clinical settings. Typically offered Fall Spring. Prerequisite(s): (NUR 19202 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR NUR 19201 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C) AND NUR 29400 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C AND NUR 41500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C Experiential Learning (EXL): Yes Course Learning Outcomes 1. Use the nursing process and professional nursing behavior to deliver safe, holistic person-centered care based on the best available evidence to an adult patient with common health variations. 2. Demonstrate understanding of concepts of caring, critical thinking and clinical decision-making as the basis of care for a single, low acuity adult patient with a common health variation. 3. Identify relationships among disease processes, clinical presentation and nursing management of a single low acuity adult patient with common health variations. 4. Identify health care technologies available to coordinate care and inform clinical practice decisions in the context of caring for a single low acuity patient. 5. Demonstrate cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills for the delivery of patient-centered care and safe administration of medication. 6. Use principles of effective communication while working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams in the context of a single low acuity adult patient with a common health variation. 7. Demonstrate accountability for practice within the legal and ethical standards of the nursing profession, upholding the ANA Code of Ethics. View Class Schedule
