This course presents an introduction to the capabilities, limitations, and applications of computers in the business environment. Topics include information systems, hardware, software, data management, telecommunications and networking, decision support, artificial intelligence, expert systems, security, privacy, ethical issues in information systems, and implementation of effective Information Technology (IT). Course Learning Outcomes 1. Discuss the strategic use of IT. 2. Analyze the impact of IT on the organization. 3. Identify the common functions performed by all database management systems and discuss advanced database technology such as data warehouses and data mining. 4. Identify and describe Internet, intranet, and extranet and discuss how organizations are using them. 5. List and describe the main components of the software development lifecycle. 6. Discuss the importance of security, privacy, and ethical issues as they relate to information systems. 7. Identify the challenges and opportunities in management of global information technologies.
