Catalog description

The course topics will include data visualization best practices, live and interactive dashboard development, and data storytelling. The course will also show students how to shape, blend, and join various data sources in order to provide useful information. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the difference between “cell-based” data structures and “column-based” data structures. 2. Implement the 5 areas of visualization design: Integrity, Color, Flow, Typeface, and Charm. 3. Provide database developers and data engineers the appropriate data structure requirements. 4. Perform basic data blending techniques, including joins and unions. 5. Select appropriate data visualization designs. Students will understand graphs to use based on what they are trying to present: deviation, correlation, change v time, ranking, distribution, part to whole, magnitude, spatial, and flow. 6. Gain an understanding of how executives, senior leaders, and analysts use dashboards and advanced graphics to solve business problems and support managerial decision making. 7. Learn how to gather requirements from business sponsors requesting dashboards and data stories. 8. Advance the Data Visualization Software and Excel skills of the students. View Class Schedule
