Catalog description
Study of fundamental concepts in computer numerical control (CNC) technology. Cutter centerline programming, cutter diameter compensation, tool nose radius (TNR) compensation, coordinate transformation, canned cycles, subprograms, user macros. The lab includes programming and operation of CNC turning and milling machines, CAD/CAM programming, and integration of design and manufacturing through computer network. Prerequisite(s): MET 10200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- AND MET 24200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate knowledge of concepts in CNC programming such as programmed point of a cutter, tool offsets, zero point offsets, coordinate system transformation and rotation etc. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of programming techniques in CNC such as centerline programming, compensation programming, edge programming, parametric programming etc. 3. Demonstrate knowledge and experience of programming and operation of Fanuc systems. 4. Demonstrate some knowledge and experience of using CAD in CNC programming. 5. Exercise technical report writing skills. 6. Have some basic knowledge of industrial robot systems. View Class Schedule
