The principles of strength, stiffness, and stability are introduced and applied primarily to mechanical components. Typically offered Fall. Prerequisite(s): (MET 11800 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- OR MET 11100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D-) AND (MA 16019 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- (MAY BE TAKEN CONCURRENTLY) OR APPL FOR MIN. SCORE OF 085 OR S12 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 660 OR A02 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 32) Course Learning Outcomes 1. Identify what type of stresses are present within a structure based on structure loading (bending, axial, shear, and torsional). 2. Apply material properties and cross-sectional/area properties in analysis and design. 3. Calculate the stress present due to internal loads. 4. Calculate the principal stresses and the maximum shear stress for maximum stress locations. 5. Calculate the deflection in statistically determinate structures. View Class Schedule
