Catalog description

The skills needed to solve technical problems in mechanical engineering technology are developed. Instruction is given in analytical and computational problem-solving techniques. The electronic calculator, the factor-label method of unit conversions, engineering graphs, and the computer are used to solve problems. Computer emphasis is on spreadsheet analysis, graphics, and generation of technical reports through the integrated use of software packages. Credit will not be granted for MET 16000 and MET 16200 or MET 16300. Typically offered Fall Spring. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Apply the general solution format known as GFSA: GIVEN-FIND-SOLUTION-ANSWER. 2. Demonstrate capability to solve first order linear equations, exponential algebra, logarithmic coordinates and evaluation of radical expressions. 3. Apply conventional and scientific notation in conjunction with appropriate significant figures. 4. Apply the technique of linear regression to numerical data. 5. Demonstrate the technique of power regression applied to exponential equations and their graphs. 6. Apply both single and double linear interpolations of tabular data. 7. Conduct spreadsheet analysis, develop graphics, and generate technical reports through the integrated use of computer software packages. View Class Schedule
