Catalog description

(CE 55501) Design of earth structures: Dam, highway fills, cofferdams, etc. Embankment construction techniques, quality control, embankment analysis, instrumentation, foundation soil stabilization, seepage analysis and control. Design problem. Permission of instructor required. Prerequisite(s): CE 32300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR CE 58900 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR CE 58900 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF C Course Learning Outcomes 1. Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, engineering geology science, and mathematics. 2. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors. 3. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences in geotechnical reports. 4. Develop and conduct appropriate soil and rock mechanics experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgement to draw conclusions. 5.
