Introduction to linear acoustics through derivation of the wave equation and simple solutions. Plane and spherical waves. Acoustic intensity. Plane wave transmission through fluid layers and simple barriers. Sound absorption. Modeling of acoustical sources: monopoles, dipoles, quadrupoles. Mechanisms of sound generation and directionality.
