Continues the study of number systems through integers. Quantitative and proportional reasoning as a foundation for algebraic reasoning. Elementary statistical reasoning. Geometric, measurement and spatial reasoning in one, two and three dimensions as the basis for elementary school geometry. Metric and non-metric geometry, transformation geometry. Prerequisite(s): MA 13700 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C Course Learning Outcomes 1. Write an algebraic equation for growing linear and quadratic patterns. 2. Determine the rate of change (slope), the vertical intercept, and the equation of the line, given two points on a line. 3. Solve proportion and percent problems. 4. Explain the standard algorithms for +, - , x and ÷ of decimals. 5. Justify the steps in the standard division algorithm for fractions. 6. Explain the algorithms for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. 7. Determine when to use the mean, median, or mode to describe a distribution. 8. Demonstrate how to use the spread, shape, and center of data as a basis for decision-making. 9. Know how to make and interpret different types of graphical representations of data including, stem and leaf plots; circle graphs; histograms, bar graphs; dot(line) plots; box plots and scatter plots. 10. Analyze characteristics and properties of geometric objects in one, two, and three dimensions (line segments, lines, rays, circles, polygons, polyhedral solids, cylinders, cones, and spheres) and their elements (vertices, edges, and faces). 11. Specify locations and describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry. 12. Describe the differences in different rigid motions and dilations. 13. Solve similarity and scaling tasks. 14. Classify triangles and quadrilaterals. 15. Apply the relationships for angles formed by intersecting lines and parallel lines cut by transversals to solve tasks. 16. Prove that the sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180 degrees. 17. Explain the formulas for calculating the sum of interior and exterior angles of a polygon. 18. Demonstrate the understanding of pi as a ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter and use pi to figure out tasks that have either a missing circumference or diameter. 19. Justify the formulas for calculating the area of a rectangle, parallelogram, triangle, trapezoid, and circles. 20. Develop a proof for the Pythagorean theorem and using it to figure out how to calculate the missing sides of right triangles. 21. Calculate the perimeters of quadrilaterals, triangles and circles and use those to figure out the area and perimeter of composite shapes. 22. Identify the characteristics of prisms, pyramids, cones and cylinders by their nets and calculate their surface area and volume. 23.
