Catalog description

This course covers the advanced techniques in data visualization from various data sources including commercial, scientific, medical, engineering, sports and social network. Students will utilize industry standard software tools and software development libraries to visually represent the data, gain insight with data, and communicate the results with other people. Topics include visual encoding of numerical data, textual data visualization, time-series data visualization, network and graph visualization, geospatial data visualization, medical and scientific data visualization, and visualization for Explainable Artificial Intelligence. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate the knowledge of data visualization principles and practices. 2. Demonstrate the skills and techniques in data visualization, including data modeling, graphical perception, visual encoding and interaction. 3. Create high-fidelity visual representation of data to enhance the understanding of the data, utilizing software tools and software development libraries. 4. Perform a literature review on cutting-edge data visualization research articles and write a survey paper on selected data visualization topic. View Class Schedule
