This course covers requirements, acquisition/sourcing, integration, project management, testing and quality assurance, organizational context, architecture and other topics. Typically offered Fall. Prerequisite(s): ITS 17000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C AND (ITS 14000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR CS 12300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR CS 12600 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C) Course Learning Outcomes 1. Compare and contrast the OSI and Internet models as they apply to contemporary communication protocols. 2. Deploy a basic Ethernet LAN and compare it to other network topologies. 3. Demonstrate the ability to solve basic problems and perform basic troubleshooting operations on LANs and connected devices. 4. Summarize and describe the data communications and telecommunications models, topologies, protocols, standards and architectures in use today. 5. Discuss the concepts and the “building blocks” of today’s data communication networks such as switches, routers, and cabling. 6. Explain the operation and function of 80 2.1 (LAN) devices and protocols. 7. Describe the necessary hardware (switches and routers) and components (routing algorithms and protocols) used to establish communication between multiple networks. 8. Select appropriate physical media for a given network application. 9. Construct multiple networks and connect them together. 10. Explain VLANs, trunking and port aggregation and configure and deploy switches utilizing the above. 11. Compare and contrast routing protocols and compare/contrast the functions and operation of interior routing protocols with exterior routing protocols. View Class Schedule
