Motor Learning And Control

Catalog description
The purpose of this course is to study processes that underlie learning and performance of motor skills. Students will identify structural components of the central nervous system that are directly involved in the control of movement and describe their primary functions. Tactile, proprioceptive, and visual sensory systems are also examined in terms of their anatomical and physiological basis, how they influence the control of movement, and the limits they place on human motor skill performance. Prerequisite(s): PSY 12000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand motor learning on both a scientific and clinical basis. 2. Describe motor learning within the context of both normal and abnormal human function. 3. Understand the interrelationship between motor learning, motor development and motor control. 4. Bridge the gap between theory and practice (i.e., to understand the applications of motor learning to the fields of exercise science). 5. Understand motor learning as a field of study through: history, as a subdiscipline of exercise science, as a working specialty area. View Class Schedule
