This course will introduce students to psychological theories for understanding and predicting health-oriented physical activity behavior, psychological and psychobiological responses to physical activity, and interventions for increasing physical activity participation and adherence. Students will gain laboratory and field-based experiences to utilize in their future interactions with clients and patients. This course is most appropriate for those wishing to enter careers in which human movement is a component, such as personal and group fitness training, physical and occupational therapy, athletic training, clinical exercise physiology, nursing, and medicine. Prerequisite(s): PSY 12000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C AND (SCI 10500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR BIOL 10100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR BIOL 21300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C) Course Learning Outcomes 1. Introduce students to the psychology of physical activity and understanding why it is important. 2. Understand the most common theories of physical activity behavior, psychobiological responses during and after physical activity behavior, and interventions for increasing physical activity behavior adoption and adherence. 3. Be exposed to measurement techniques and learn how to complete physical activity behavior portfolios for your clients. 4.
