This course prepares students to understand the variety of viewpoints and concepts related to illness in a variety of cultures. The need for providing culturally appropriate health care is explored and emphasized. Prerequisite(s): PSY 12000 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C AND (SCI 10500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR BIOL 10100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR BIOL 21300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C) Course Learning Outcomes 1. Assess cultural factors that influence the individual’s, family’s, and community’s orientation to the health care system in the United States. 2. Identify areas of potential conflict between health care providers and a patient’s cultural beliefs and values, and explain selected cultural factors that could affect the relationship between health care providers and patients. 3. Use knowledge of health-related cultural/ethnic beliefs, values, and practices to design a plan of care for culturally and ethnically diverse populations. View Class Schedule
