This course provides an overview of currently available health insurance plans. Several types of insurance programs will be discussed, such as Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, and BCBS. As well as HMO, PPO, EPO, Worker’s Compensation, and disability insurance. This course is supplemented by several hands-on experience activities and sample forms, such as the universal claim form (CMS-1500), with the latest information on electronic claims, hospital billing, and physician billing especially related to Medicare and Medicaid. Prerequisite(s): ENGL 10400 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C OR HONR 11100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C Course Learning Outcomes 1. Provide a basic knowledge of major health insurance programs, the laws and regulations affecting health care. 2. Gain a basic understanding of national diagnosis and procedure coding systems. 3.
