This course includes instruction in the roles and responsibility of the paramedic, orientation to the hospital and field settings, medical legal aspects of care, patient assessment, trauma management, management of stress and behavioral emergencies, pastoral care orientation, pre-hospital scene management, universal precautions, hazardous materials identification and response. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. The student learns to use, apply and integrate comprehensive knowledge of EMS systems, the safety and well-being of the EMS personnel and the medical legal and ethical issues which are intended to improve the health of EMS personnel, patients and the community. 2. The student puts in order an organized approach upon which they learn to use, apply and integrate scene and patient assessment findings with knowledge of pathophysiology to form a field impression by developing differential diagnoses through clinical reasoning by putting together a treatment plan for patient management and early intervention.
