Honors Cohort I

Catalog description

The course introduces students to the Honors College, to university-level thinking and inquiry, and to undergraduate research. Students will complete a career and future planning project. This writing-intensive course also meets the objectives of the first semester of the English composition requirement. Typically offered Fall. General Education: English Composition Course Learning Outcomes 1. Identify their own learning goals and values and map a path toward academic achievement and personal fulfillment; identify university and community resources to support their achievement and fulfillment. 2. Progress toward becoming an independent and critical thinker, demonstrating the ability to use knowledge and logic when discussing an issue or an idea, while considering the consequences of their ideas, for themselves, for others, and for society. 3. Know how scholars think about problems, formulate hypotheses, research those problems, and draw conclusions about them. 4. Enhance ability to analyze and synthesize a broad range of material. 5. Improve written communication skills through practice and reflection in the following areas identified by the Council of Writing Program Administrators in the current WPA Outcomes Statement for First Year Composition (http://wpacouncil.org/positions/outcomes.html): Rhetorical knowledge, Critical thinking through reading and composing, Composing processes, and Knowledge of conventions.
