The Long Nineteenth Century

Historians of the U.S. have sometimes referred to the long nineteenth century because so many of the important lines of historical development industrialization, immigration, labor organization, expansionism, reform overlapped the end of the nineteenth into the beginning of the twentieth centuries. This course focuses on the historiographic models developed to explain these key themes and the interpretation of selected documents pertinent to each. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Explain the various historiographic interpretations of the main themes in 19th century U.S. history. 2. Analyze the historiographic interpretations based on evidence and the rules of logic and critical thinking. 3. Apply the historiographic theories and interpretations in the development of teaching modules for use in high school/college classrooms. View Class Schedule
