This course covers major themes in African American history from 1877 that focus on Black Americans’ struggle to overcome social, economic, and political oppression and to win basic civil and human rights while making valuable contributions to American society. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Gain a knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the experiences of African Americans and United States history as a whole. 2. Gain an understanding and knowledge of the political, economic, and social processes that shaped African American history. 3. Learn how to “think historically” by placing documents written in the past in their historical contexts, and to consider the relationship of the past to the present. View Class Schedule
