Analyzes major developments from the downfall of Napoleon to the out-break of World War I. Emphasis is placed on main currents in international relations, domestic affairs of major European States, the Revolution of 1848, and ideological, cultural, intellectual trends of the period. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Identify the economic, social, political, and intellectual/cultural aspects of past societies and how they changed over time. 2. Contextualize information about people and events from the past and recognize how people were shaped by those events. 3. Locate historical themes and how they provide context to different times and places. 4. Understand change across time and/or place to provide a plausible interpretative account of the human past with a focus on sources, context, structures and trends. 5. Generate substantive, open-ended questions about the past and develop research strategies to answer them. 6. Craft well-supported historical narratives, arguments, and reports of research findings in a variety of media for a variety of audiences. View Class Schedule
