Catalog description

This course explores Latin American history from its pre-Columbian origins to the early 21st century, with particular attention paid to indigenous societies, the Iberian conquest and colonial legacy, transculturation, republican government, foreign intervention, nationalism, revolution, neoliberalism and identity politics and culture. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand Latin America’s pre-colonial and colonial past and how its present has been shaped by that past. 2. Be able to identify the unique cultural, social and political development that has occurred in Latin America. 3. Be able to explain more fully concepts of race, ethnicity and ethnic relations as they relate to Latin America’s past and present. 4. Be able to evaluate critically historical documents, both primary and secondary. View Class Schedule
