Catalog description

This course will introduce engineering technology students to resources and skills that will help them to be successful in their studies and ultimately in their careers. This course will help students explore engineering technology by introducing campus, regional, and national resources such as professional societies in their chosen fields. It will also help students improve in areas important to becoming better students. These areas may include topics such as planning academic careers, mentoring, improving study skills, goal setting, and utilization of library resources. In addition, the course will focus on specific introductory concepts important to engineering technology students such as using campus computer resources and the ETAC of ABET outcomes. The course will also explore discipline-specific skills that are required of engineering technology professionals. General Education: Technology Course Learning Outcomes 1. Become familiar with ASME, SME, SAE, IEEE, IIE, PMMI and other societies or institutes in order to recognize the role of professional organizations in campus life and lifelong learning and the societal and ethical responsibilities the organizations espouse. 2. Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying campus resources that will assist in academic planning and support academic General Education Objectives. 3. Demonstrate the ability to utilize research facilities and tools available on and off campus. 4. Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively. 5. Demonstrate understanding of major fields of study and discipline-specific career choices. 6. Demonstrate fundamental discipline-specific skills required of engineering technology professionals.
