Writing For New Media

Catalog description

Course invites students to explore the emergence of new media (primarily online, interactive digital media) both in theory and in practical production terms as writers; students will examine how researchers define new media and experiment with repurposing traditional forms of print media to meet these challenges. Topics will include participatory culture, convergence theory, knowledge communities, transmedia production, among others. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. To research and write about various forms of new media and how they are distributed in online spaces. 2. To understand the concepts associated with researching new media (for example: participatory culture, knowledge communities, transmedia navigation, among others) and produce research-based writing projects to demonstrate that understanding. 3. To take an existing print-based project of the student’s own work and repurpose it in light of concepts learned throughout the course. View Class Schedule
