This course introduces students to theories and research methods that practitioners in literary studies use to analyze literature, prose, digital media, discourse, popular culture, cultural practices, and ideologies. Emphasis is on how to frame questions important to students and in the field, how to employ theory to explore them critically, and how to apply the results of such inquiry in social praxis. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Analyze literature, prose, digital media, discourse, popular culture, cultural practices, and ideologies using a range of critical and literary theories. 2. Operationalize a range of research methods associated with critical and literary theories. 3. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of a range of critical and literary theories and research methods. 4. Formulate questions about their own intellectual interests and of importance in the field of literary studies. 5. Investigate these questions critically using critical and literary theory and research methods. 6. Apply the results of such inquiry in social praxis. View Class Schedule
