Catalog description

Presents an overview of counseling in elementary, middle, and secondary schools. Treats the history of school counseling, developmental characteristics and problems of students, and counseling program elements and issues. Typically offered Summer Fall Spring. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Articulate fundamentals of counseling in general and school counseling in particular, as well as skills and role of the school counselor. 2. Articulate basic history and current trends in school counseling. 3. Identify ways for school counselors to serve as change agents in the school culture and climate, as well as incorporate multicultural understandings into conceptualizing school counseling programs.
