Catalog description

This course integrates an understanding of diversity with principles of democratic education. Historical, Sociological, Cultural, Political philosophical, and Pedagogical Foundations of diversity are explored and related to issues of pedagogy in a pluralistic society. This course includes an experiential component. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Analyze social justice issues in education using an equity-oriented lens. 2. Develop an inclusive learning environment free of bias for all students. 3. Demonstrate an awareness of how one’s own ideas, beliefs and values regarding teaching are shaped by positionalities, identities and life experiences. 4. Apply concepts including sexism, racism, classism and ableism to schools and learning contexts. View Class Schedule
