Explore the connection between developmental needs of young children and practices for guidance. Methods for management of Birth – Grade 3 early learning environments to promote young children’s executive function and pro-social behaviors. Typically offered Spring. Course Learning Outcomes Aligned with the Professional Preparation Standards from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the INTASC Standards. The candidate will: 1. Understand the complexities of children’s social-emotional development (NAEYC 1; INTASC 4); 2. Understand the principles underlying the theories of child guidance (NAEYC 1, 2, 4; INTASC 4, 7, 8); 3. Explore a variety of research-based guidance practices (NAEYC 1, 2, 4; INTASC 4, 7, 8); 4. Reflect on one’s childhood experiences as they relate to developing competence , autonomy and self-control and the impact that has one’s own philosophy (NAEYC 1, 2, 4, 6; INTASC 4, 7, 8, 9); 5. Develop a philosophy of child guidance that incorporates strategies for use with children in early care and education settings (NAEYC 1, 2, 4, 6; INTASC 4, 7, 8, 9). View Class Schedule
