Analysis of historical developments and present trends in science education; the designing, implementation, and evaluation of science programs; the role of research in present and future developments. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Identify, describe, and explain the fundamental tenets of different constructivist learning theories and their relevancy to STEM education. 2. Clarify and refine beliefs about teaching and learning in STEM education. 3. Identify and characterize students’ ideas about STEM and how they influence learning. 4. Explore students’ thinking and understanding of STEM through multiple strategies. 5. Describe ways to assess student learning in STEM. 6. Identify, practice, and reflect upon teaching strategies commensurate with teaching beliefs and knowledge about how students learn STEM through an integrated approach. 7. Compare and evaluate curriculum resources for integrating STEM instruction. 8. Devise a comprehensive lesson plan for integrating STEM instruction based on science and engineering practices and teaching for all learners. 9. Teach and reflect upon an integrated STEM lesson employing multiple instructional strategies. 10. Evaluate student learning in the context of an integrated STEM lesson. View Class Schedule
