Catalog description

An introduction to the field of distance learning/education. Examination of basic concepts and principles of distance learning, the theoretical underpinnings of the field, research and application literature, and distance education delivery technologies. Focus is on integration of distance education technologies for learning and teaching. Typically offered Summer Fall Spring. Prerequisite(s): EDCI 57200 FOR LEVEL GR WITH MIN. GRADE OF B- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Discuss common distance education (DE) definitions and theories. 2. Understand how distance education has evolved including the history, research and current trends of DE. 3. Select and demonstrate appropriate technologies for use in DE environments. 4. Compare, contrast, and apply appropriate learning theories to DE scenarios. 5. Identify appropriate instructional design methods and apply them to DE scenarios. 6. Demonstrate understanding of unique challenges of teaching at a distance. 7. Appreciate common assessment and evaluation methods and incorporate them into DE scenarios. 8. Discuss potential barriers faced by learners and instructors in DE environments. 9. Be aware of and able to discuss policies that relate to DE. View Class Schedule
