Examines the market forces that lead to the development, growth, and size of cities. In addition, this course covers the theory of location and land use, principles of local public finance, policy problems in the areas of urban housing, transportation, crime, and pollution. Typically offered Spring. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Use foundational models of urban economics and economic geography to understand the forces shaping spatial economic patterns. 2. Examine key spatial patterns within and across cities, identifying underlying economic and geographic factors. 3. Evaluate the challenges of urbanization in developing countries, considering economic, social, and environmental dimensions. 4.
