Catalog description

While there are several potential approaches to studying the evolution of ideas in economics, this course focuses on contributions to the development of economic theory from key philosophical thinkers and economists. This will be accomplished through a combination of biographical study, writing analysis, discussion, and evaluation of the significance of these contributions. We will study economic theory from the perspective of various individuals and schools of economic thought from ancient times to Neo-Classical, Keynesian, and even heterodox theories that are outside of what is typically considered “mainstream” economic thought. Prerequisite(s): ECON 25100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C Course Learning Outcomes 1. Recognize significant contributions to economic thought from selected key figures in the development of economic ideas throughout history. 2. Analyze economic ideas and writings within their historical, cultural, and philosophical contexts. 3. Compare economic ideas across time to develop relevant connections and applications.
