Catalog description
This course reviews process control principles and practices. Topics include: analog and digital signal conditioning; thermal, mechanical and optical transducers; electromechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic control devices, and the application of computer-aided tools for process control instrumentation. Various control algorithms and control loop characteristics are also studied. Typically offered Fall. Prerequisite(s): ECET 15401 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- AND MA 16019 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand digital and analog signal conditioning: accuracy, linearization, conversions, filtering, & impedance matching. 2. Understand instrumentation amplifier & other analog circuits. 3. Understand voltage-to-current & current-to-voltage converters. 4. Understand electronic Integrators and differentiators. 5. Understand various kinds of industrial sensors and transducers and their operating principles: temperature, pressure, flow, torque, photoelectric, pyroelectric, piezoelectric etc. 6. Understand final control operation: signal conversion, actuators, & control element. 7. Synthesize electronic circuit from word description of a control process. 8. Understand discrete-state process control: relay-control and PLC controlled ladder logic. 9. Analyze controller principles and concepts: control loop characteristics, proportional-integral-derivative control and controller tuning. View Class Schedule
