Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the basic aspects of microwave techniques. The topics will include Maxwell’s equations with their physical meaning, and most relevant forms; microwave generation, propagation, boundary conditions, and S parameters. Other topics include transmission lines, Smith Charts, microwave networks, couplers, detectors, mixers, and amplifiers. The course also includes the use of hands-on commercial CAD software. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Prerequisite(s): ECE 31100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Know basic properties of microwave propagation and reflection 2. Know how to use a Smith Chart and determine matching circuits 3. Effectively use a commercial CAD package to solve practical microwave problems. 4. Know the definition of noise parameters and its effect on active devices. 5. Know power gain definitions. View Class Schedule
