This course provides an advanced study of electric machines and drives, emphasizing analysis, modeling, and control of electromechanical energy conversion systems. Students will learn theoretical and practical aspects of transformers, induction machines, synchronous machines, and modern drive systems. Laboratory sessions combine software-based design using ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program) with hands-on experiments involving physical machines and drives. Students will design and simulate complete drive systems, validate results experimentally, and analyze performance under variable-speed and control conditions. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Analyze and model magnetic circuits, electric machines, and electromechanical-energy-conversion principles governing transformers, induction, and synchronous machines. 2. Evaluate drive performance and control techniques, including torque/speed regulation, starting-current mitigation, and voltage/frequency control. 3. Apply ETAP and other modern tools to design and analyze power and drive systems. 4. Interpret and validate simulation and experimental data by comparing analytical models with laboratory measurements. 5. Demonstrate safe operation and professional laboratory practices with rotating machinery and power-electronic equipment. 6. Communicate technical findings through written reports and oral presentations of group design projects. View Class Schedule
