Computer Network Security

Catalog description

This course aims to develop a security mindset in students by providing a comprehensive understanding of computer network security. It begins with an overview of fundamental security concepts and progresses to an in-depth examination of vulnerabilities and attacks targeting computer network systems. Specific focus will be given to vulnerabilities and attacks associated with various protocols within the TCP/IP stack. The course will also cover a range of defense mechanisms, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and virtual private networks (VPNs). Additionally, foundational topics in cryptography, such as digital signatures, certificates, and authentication, will be discussed. To reinforce these concepts, students will be engaged in hands-on assignments that explore both attack and defense mechanisms. Prerequisite(s): ECE 15100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- AND ECE 46300 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Explain fundamental concepts of cyber security. 2. Explain vulnerabilities, attacks, and defense mechanisms in computer networks. 3. Explain cryptography, digital signatures, and certificates. 4.
