Catalog description

This course combines computer science algorithms and statistics analysis for data mining and machine learning. The course introduces rule-based decision tree systems, statistical learning, supervised and unsupervised learning, and multi-layer Neural Networks deep learning. Students will do modeling with C5, Neural Networks and R, and implement multiple algorithms in the programming languages C and Python. Typically offered Fall. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Learn to process raw data into a suitable format for a range of data mining algorithms. 2. Able to use the statistical software R to perform different types of computational tasks (prediction, classification, clustering, etc.) 3. Learn to analyze data through statistical and graphical summarization. 4. Understand the principles and algorithms of Data Mining and Machine Learning systems. 5. Able to apply the ID3 algorithm and C5 decision tree for classification and prediction; 6. Able to apply Neural Networks with Python and Deep Learning algorithms for Data Mining 7. Communicate their results through their project presentation. View Class Schedule
