Catalog description
This course is about the concepts and principles of modern operation systems. It includes: design and implementation of multi-process systems; process synchronization, mutual exclusion; CPU scheduling, deadlock, memory management, segmentation, paging, virtual memory; storage management, file system management, protection and security, evaluation and prediction of performance. Reading the latest paper about operation systems and presentations are required. Every student should participate in debates based on the case studies of Linux System and Windows 7. Prerequisites: CS 30200. Permission of department required. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand how an operating system manages all of the hardware and software resources of computer. 2. Simulate the operating systems’ major functionaries through two large programming projects. 3. Be familiar with the latest development of operating systems like Windows 7 and LINUX as case studies through a team debate. View Class Schedule
