An examination of theoretical writings and critical studies in selected areas of nonverbal communication, e.g., the environmental influences, space and territory relationships, physical appearance and dress, physical behavior, and vocal cues. One unit will deal specifically with measurement, recording, or transcription methods used in nonverbal study. Typically offered Fall. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Gain knowledge of the four approaches to the study of nonverbal communication. 2. Evaluate critically nonverbal behaviors in various contexts, such as personal relationships or professional presentations. 3. Learn to locate scholarly literature on nonverbal communication and design research methodologies. 4. Develop greater self-awareness of one’s own nonverbal communication and apply these skills to enhance personal and professional interactions. 5.
