Catalog description

Examination of magazine staff organization, market analysis, and editorial content. Study of, and practice in, the writing of a variety of nonfiction materials for magazines. Emphasis is on the adaptation of topics and presentations to editorial policies and reader groups. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the stylistic, formatting and structural differences between a typical media article and a feature. 2. Research and produce long-form feature articles for newspapers/magazines, newsletters and other communication platforms. 3. Manage interviews for long-form features – what to seek from the interviewee and what to look for beyond. 4. Write different kinds of features: Informational, instructional and promotional.
