Study of forces acting on bodies at rest. Coplanar and non-coplanar forces, concurrent and non-concurrent forces, hydrostatic forces, centroids and moments of inertia will be studies. Typically offered Spring. Prerequisite(s): MA 14800 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR MA 15400 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR APPL FOR MIN. SCORE OF 075 OR S12 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 610 OR A02 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 30 Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the concept of a resultant force for systems of forces and calculate the resultant force for systems of forces acting on a body. 2. Understand the concept of components of a force and calculate the components of a resultant force. 3. Understand the principle of moments and solve for the moment caused by a force acting about any point on a rigid body. 4. Solve for the reaction forces at the supports of a rigid body at rest. 5. Calculate the force in members of a truss using the Method of Joints. 6. Understand the Method of Sections and calculate the force in members of a truss using the Method of Sections. 7. Understand the difference between Centroids and Centers of Gravity. 8. Locate Centroids and Centers of Gravity for rigid bodies at rest. 9. Calculate the Moment of Inertia of a composite cross-sectional area. 10. Understand the concept of Radius of Gyration and how it’s used as a determinate of bending in compression members and calculate the Radius of Gyration for any given cross-sectional area. 11. Apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging applications of mathematics and engineering technology. 12. Identify, analyze, and solve technical problems. View Class Schedule
