Catalog description

Introduction to basic surveying operations. Development of the surveying skills necessary to measure distances, angles, and elevations to required accuracies. Calculation of tape corrections, bearing, coordinates, traverses, and areas. Emphasis is placed on instrument use and note-keeping techniques. Typically offered Spring. Prerequisite(s): MA 14800 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR MA 15400 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR APPL FOR MIN. SCORE OF 075 OR S12 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 610 OR A02 FOR MIN. SCORE OF 30 Course Learning Outcomes 1. Define land surveying, and describe its function in the field of construction. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of the units of measurement associated with surveying. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the levels of accuracy associated with various surveying measurements. 4. Identify and account for errors in measurements. 5. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of basic surveying field equipment, including tape, level, and theodolite and work in group. 6. Demonstrate the ability to keep neat, complete, and accurate field notes. 7. Demonstrate proficiency in performing basic surveying computations and work in group. 8.
