Catalog description

A survey of the interactive multimedia development process, knowledge base, and applications in business and industry. Particular attention is paid to research issues surrounding theoretical, technological, and interactive techniques, and validating those approaches through applied research. Emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary nature of the development of new media tools. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Become familiar with a range of projects that consider data as a primary material and learn to contextualize recent creative data visualization projects within the history of electronic media, the interactive arts, and visual design. 2. Develop proficiency at programming using the main contemporary software frameworks for data visualization and interactive content creation. 3. Gain experience working on a larger project, including collaborating with others on interactive software, authoring a conference-style write-up to describe the project, and documenting project code in an open-source repo.
