Review treatment implications associated with topics such as gender and power, race/ethnicity, family structure, and socioeconomic status. Discuss treatment implications of social oppression and discrimination on families. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Gain wider perspectives on power and diversity as it relates to couple and family therapy theory and practice. 2. Be able to clinically work with families from a variety of backgrounds, including but not limited to Hispanic/Latino, Black, gay/lesbian, child-free, differently abled, and Asian families. 3. Demonstrate understanding of self-of-the-therapist issues that impact therapy. 4. Demonstrate understanding of how families and therapists are situated within a larger socio-political-cultural context that includes social oppression, privilege, class issues, and issues of cultural identity within a global context.
