Analysis of stress and strain, Mohr’s circle, equations of equilibium and compatibility; stres-strain laws; extension torsions, bending and deflection of beams, buckling of columns, elastic stability and strain energy, Castigliano’s Theorem, pressure vessels, selected topics. Typically offered Summer Fall. Prerequisite(s): MA 26100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- AND (ME 27100 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- OR CE 27101 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D-) Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand concepts of stress, strain, strain energy, and failure. 2. Analyze and design structural members subjected to tension, compression, torsion, bending, transverse, and combined loadings with the concept of stress, strain, and deformation. 3. Transform stress components associated with a particular coordinate system into components associated with another coordinate system having a different orientation using Mohr’s circle. 4.
