Introduction to recent advances in biotechnology: the use of living organisms to create products, applications, or processes that improve the quality of life for humans and other species. The course will consist of an overview of medical, microbial, agricultural, aquatic, bioremediation, and forensic biotechnology with a focus on modern applications that impact our everyday lives. Typically offered Spring. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 24400 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Define biotechnology and understand the many scientific disciplines that contribute to biotechnology. 2. List and describe different types of biotechnology and their applications. 3. Understand that there are pros and cons to biotechnology and that there are many controversial issues in this field. 4. Describe career categories in biotechnology and ways to explore them. 5. Provide examples of potential advances in biotechnology. 6. Define recombinant DNA technology and explain how it is used to clone genes and manipulate DNA. View Class Schedule
