Catalog description

An introductory course in creating value for firms through efficient operations and supply chain management techniques. Topics covered include product and service design, statistical control of processes, facility planning and layout, scheduling, inventory management, and sustainability. Prerequisite(s): MGMT 22500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR BUSM 22500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR BIA 22500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR BIZA 22500 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Define the term productivity and explain why it is important to organizations and to countries. 2. Describe averaging techniques, trend and seasonal techniques, and regression analysis, and solve typical problems in Forecasting. 3. Define reliability, perform simple reliability computations and explain the purpose of redundancy in the system. 4. Discuss ways of defining and measuring capacity. 5. Formulate a linear programming model from a description of a problem, solve simple linear programming problems, and interpret computer solution of linear programming problem. 6. List and explain the elements of the quality control process and explain how control charts are used to monitor a process. 7. Explain what aggregate planning is and prepare aggregate plans and compute their costs. 8. Describe the basic EOQ model, the economic run size model, and the quantity discount model and solve typical problems in inventory management. 9. Explain what scheduling involves and the importance of good scheduling. 10. Give a general description of PERT/CPM techniques and analyze networks with deterministic and probabilistic times and solve typical problems. View Class Schedule
