Introduction to Business Information Analytics

Catalog description

The objective of this course is to provide students with an introduction to the concepts and technologies of business information analytics and current legal and ethical issues relating to data and technology usage. The course will focus on the impact of business information analytics in modern business decision making and the skills necessary to analyze business problems. Topics include data analysis, data visualization, and data mining using the computer-based systems, and how to interpret and communicate analytic results. Prerequisite(s): MGMT 10200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR ISM 10200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- OR BIA 10200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF C- General Education: Technology Course Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate competency in the use of spreadsheet software and data analytics software in a business context. 2. Explain the importance of business information systems in strategic decision-making, discuss the planning and management of information technology resources, and describe the impact of analytics on the conduction of business. 3. Discuss the security and ethical issues surrounding the availability of information, describe sustainable enterprise architectures, explain how organizations use databases and data warehouses to formulate and support strategy, and discuss how business intelligence supports decision making. 4. Explain how information systems help organizations support and facilitate supply chain management, customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning, and discuss systems development, project management, innovation, and globalization issues.
