Catalog description

This course provides upper-division undergraduate and graduate students with basic understanding of biochemical and structural properties of amino acids, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates. This course allows students to connect the relationship between structure and function of biomolecules. In addition, students learn to understand enzyme properties, enzyme mechanism of action, and enzyme regulation. Typically offered Fall. Prerequisite(s): (CHM 25600 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- OR CHM 26200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D-) Course Learning Outcomes 1. Students will understand the molecular principles of life based on the core disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. 2. Students will understand the scientific method. They will be able to develop hypotheses, design experiments, and critically analyze results to create new knowledge. 3. Students will be skilled laboratory scientists. They will perform a wide variety of biochemical and molecular techniques. 4.
