Catalog description

This course is a continuation of ASL 20200 (5th in sequence of courses in ASL). Features of Level 5 are expanded student discourse, advanced ASL structure and vocabulary, roleshift variations, formal storytelling, text analysis and formal/informal presentations. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer. Prerequisite(s): ASL 20200 FOR LEVEL UG WITH MIN. GRADE OF D- Course Learning Outcomes 1. Students will learn and demonstrate advanced grammatical uses of ASL in conversations and in storytelling. 2. Students will develop increasingly complex receptive and expressive skills in ASL discourse: how sign movements can be modified to change meaning; how and when facial expressions occur; and how body, head, and eye movements are used in phrasing and agreement. 3. Students will demonstrate fluent and appropriate communication skills with competent/native users of ASL by maintaining a high degree of grammatical accuracy. 4. Students will demonstrate increased understanding and appreciation of noted ASL artists performing handshape stories, cheers, songs, poetry, storytelling, and legends. 5. Students will be able to compare, contrast, and exchange opinions on current issues in the field of Deaf and ASL studies. View Class Schedule
